Muttita Moves offers yoga and meditation instruction, thai massage, yoga therapy, spirit painting, and wellness workshops and retreats. We are located on beautiful Gabriola Island off the west coast of British Columbia.
In 2001 while I was doing an intensive daily meditation course for nine months I discovered the Buddhist concept of muttita, which is a Pali word that means “happiness for the happiness and good fortune of others”.
For a business that dedicates itself to wellness through yoga, thai yoga massage, spirit painting, and wellness retreats, this concept of muttita describes perfectly my approach.
Recently there have been studies on the benefits of expressing joy for the happiness of others, including a recent article in the New York Times.
As a passionate yogini who taught herself from a book at the age of 13, and initially practiced yoga with eyes closed, I seek to share my love of yoga with others, through yoga instruction and therapy, meditation, Thai yoga massage, and yoga retreats.
A certified yoga instructor with over 300 hours of teacher training and over 20 years of teaching, I have studied Sivananda yoga at the Stillpoint Yoga Centre with Glenn Mifsud (2001); Ashtanga and Iyengar Yoga in Montreal with Darcy and Hart Lazer (2006); Advanced Teacher Training with Barrie Risman in Montreal, and currently study yoga with Eliot Acuña in Alymer, Quebec.
A certified meditation instructor, I studied with teachers of Luangphor Viriyang Sirantharo, Lord Abbot of the Monastery Wat Dhammamongkol in Bangkok, Thailand. While Luangphor practiced Theravedic Buddhism, his approach to teaching meditation was non-denominational. The story of how Luangphor came to open meditation schools in Canada is an interesting one. Here is what happened.
As a way to deepen one’s yoga practice, and to just have fun, I offer workshops and weekend yoga retreats, often combining them with other activities such as salsa, zumba, or art.
